Transmedia…Is it the message?

Posted on Updated on

Want to know everything about Transmedia, Starwars and how all of this can be included into a medium that subconsciously gives a message? I’ve embedded links to imgur and soundcloud with my own content, as well as YouTube links so that to completely understand my reflection of transmedia, you must immerse yourself in the meaning itself.

This denotes how the “Medium is the Message” as the audience has the ability to navigate links to further enhance their engagement. These aren’t forced, but the technology to be able to give ease of access whilst also allowing detail and keeping interest, is specific to the initial ‘Medium’, WordPress.

Come for a journey!

I love this! I felt so engaged the entire time. Not only was the use of different media platforms interesting and exciting, it also proved the point you were trying to make which was awesome.
You made it flow really well, I wasn’t confused at all which I think could have been a risk of doing this kind of presentation. But you pulled it off!

I also did a prezi presentation this week for transmedia if you’s like to check that out –

I suggest reading this source article as I thought it was so interesting! Jeff Gomez who has assisted on many massive transmedia storytelling entertainment brands such as Spiderman, Avatar and Halo answers questions about his work. I recommend specifically looking at when he answers the question – “Please elaborate on the distinctions of transmedia technique from conventional cross-platform.”

Really cool blog post 🙂 xx

      Hi Jess!
thanks for your comments! i’ve only been introduced to prezi through this course and am slowly getting the hang of it. I had a look at yours and I will take pointers out of your overall presentation and layout, as well as the in depth information you’ve showcased in the presentation. A deeper look into the games, anime, spin offs and art and explaining their relation to the initial works! Interesting also to look at the works of Jeff Gomez, as again I wasn’t aware of his work in the area!
      Thanks again

I really loved the Prezi, Sam. It was great that you incorporated an element/example of transmedia with the link to the Imgur gif and then using a very familiar and large example of the Star Wars universe and then the Soundcloud at the end. It is clear you have got a good understanding of the concept and are able to convey it in many mediums, much like how the Star Wars story is expanding across many platforms. Fan engagement is just as important as the companies who create more content, as fans want to immerse themselves more into the world. Would these large franchises survive or be as big as they are today if it weren’t for the ability of the fans to share, create and discuss content? Great post!

Thanks for your comments and I believe your point about the survival of the topics, and do think fan engagement has a major impact. There’s countless of examples that have proven this, just starwars being a personal interest of mine i was able to elaborate! I think once given an opportunity, fans put forward questions that further develop a story as it allows more people to have their opinion!
      Thanks again !

    Hi Sam,

I loved your take on transmedia storytelling. Evidently Prezi was a great way to illustrate the topic.

My only criticism is that when i was viewing the Prezi it kept transitioning to the next slide way before i had time to finish reading the previous one- this is an easily rectifiable issue and something worth being aware of.

You can alter the trasition speed by following the instructions in the link below.

The content of this blog post was well reseached which indicates to me that you have a keen interest in the topic. If you would like to know more about transmedia storytelling in the world of starwars then you might find this article from ( to be interesting; it gives some great insight into the development of transmedia franchises.

    Keep up the great work.

    Great post Sam!

The prezi you have created has incorporated a variety of elements that are fundamental in the understanding of the Starwars saga and has successfully covered the concept of Trans-Media storytelling. The slides were not complicated and it was easy to navigate through this highly engaging piece of work.

The way in which Starwars have tackled this concept is excellent as it reaches mass and niche audiences, therefore immersing the consumer to pursue more aspects of the franchise. Your concluding Soundcloud podcast was excellent as it reinforced the the reader with the informative content you presented.

How altered will one’s understanding be if not exposed and/or unable to experience the variety of platforms other than the films? I’m curious as how immense the effects would be.

All in all, top stuff and I look forward to seeing more!
